Join ON

A platform to run your own practice on.

ON works through senior sub-consultants: corporate financiers, lawyers, sector specialists and modellers. You would work on the sale, raise or buy-out in front of a client, with colleagues from the other disciplines beside you. You are not an employee. You keep your independence, your clients and the flexibility to work fractionally or across more than one platform.

Start a conversationConfidential, and no obligation on either side.

Two ways to join

Come in through either. The terms are the same either way.

Way in one

Bring your own clients

You have relationships you have spent a career building. Bring them onto the ON platform and keep leading them, with legal, corporate finance and modelling behind you and the billing, onboarding and collection handled.

You keep what your clients pay for your work, less a percentage of billings that covers the platform.

Way in two

Work our mandates

Live, scoped engagements from ON's own pipeline and from our referral-partner network, not introductions you have to convert yourself.

Take what fits your capacity. Fractional, project by project, or as your main platform.

How the economics work

You are not carrying a firm

No floor of associates, no partnership drawings, no lock-up. The cost base is a percentage of billings, agreed up front.

Your clients stay yours

You lead the relationship and keep the economics that come with it. We are the platform, not the owner of your practice.

Two revenue lines, not one

Your own work plus ON mandates and referral-partner flow, so quiet months in one are covered by the other.

One mandate instead of two

You can sell the legal and the corporate finance as one mandate, which is a larger piece of work than either on its own.

What we ask

Deals you have actually run

Senior experience in corporate finance, transactional law, or a sector you can be quoted on.

Clients you would be glad to bring

Not on day one. We know a client base moves at its own pace, but it should be the direction of travel.

Availability you will honour

Deals move in weeks. Tell us what you can commit to, and hold to it.

Our standards on the page

Every figure carries a source and a date. Plain English, conclusion first, senior-led throughout.

Your first move out of private practice

If this is your first role outside a firm, we will mentor you through it.

Going out on your own can be daunting, and many of the people we speak to have only ever worked inside a firm. At ON you do not do it alone. You join a collaborative team, one of our principals is your mentor, and the set-up is done for you, so your time goes on clients rather than on running a business.

  • Set up from day one

Professional indemnity cover, engagement terms, materials and precedents are in place when you join. You do not have to build any of it yourself.

  • The platform runs the practice

Client management, KYC, invoicing and time recording all run on the ON platform, so the administration of a practice is handled for you.

  • More for your clients

Your clients get access to the ON client portal, which connects them to other providers and to our tech-enabled services.

  • A team to work with

Other practice areas when a matter needs them, and colleagues to work alongside and test ideas on. Working as part of a team gives you scale and stronger delivery than working alone.

  • Bringing and winning clients

How to carry across the relationships that are yours to bring, and how to build the ones you do not have yet. Winning work is a skill, and it can be learned.

  • Growing the practice

Pricing and scoping, choosing work that builds a practice rather than only filling a month, and knowing when to say no, with a principal who has made the move to talk it through.

Straight answers

About the first six months

We would love you to bring your own clients, and we know that takes time. We have made the same move ourselves, set up, built a pipeline and lived the gap between leaving and billing.

So the transition is deliberately smoothed. ON mandates and referral-partner work are available to you from the start, which means there is something to bill while your own relationships follow you across. We will be straight with you about what that pipeline looks like at the time you are considering it, rather than promising a number we cannot stand behind.

The commercial terms, including the percentage of billings and how it applies to your own clients versus ours, are set out in full on the first call. We would rather discuss them with the context than post a headline number.

Two paragraphs and a track record is enough. A principal reads every enquiry, and everything you send is confidential.

We use your details only to assess and contact you about working with ON. Sub-consultants are engaged on a consultancy basis. This is not an offer of employment and creates no obligation on either side.
